In our own words
It's more than a decade into the twenty-first century and the name 'Denver, Colorado' still conjures up images of cowboys and pristine mountains. Called the 'Mile High City', Denver is the gateway to the Rocky Mountains, and is home to health food fanatics and ski bunnies. Despite what the brochures say, the truth is that Denver suffers from the same problems as other cities. Plagued by drugs, gang warfare, and murder, Denver's darker side lies hidden beneath a carefully crafted image of suntanned athletes and Old West mystique. Industry is relegated to low income areas that are rarely frequented by tourists. Due to clerical errors, innocent people are killed in their own homes by the police officers sworn to protect them. Minorities of all stripes are victims of harassment brought on by racial profiling. News reports of drive-by shootings and hate crimes are buried on page fifteen of the local papers, while stories about the Broncos take up the front page.
Behind the carefully crafted mask and hidden below the concealed blemishes of the city lies something else: a hidden, secret soul. Local politics and industry are manipulated all variety of selfish monsters; and the forests are populated by monstrous half-animals. Willworkers bend reality, hiding their actions in parlor tricks. Psychics and sorcerers work in secret societies, while fairies hide themselves in plain sight. Criminals are both predator and prey, targeted by these strange beings, yet themselves targeting those who are innocent - and ignorant - of the hidden city.
